Grace Wanene
Founder, Drawing Dreams
Bold Question: What if all adolescent girls and boys would be able to access timely menstrual health & hygiene knowledge and products?
Path to Metis: When Grace won the Miss Tourism Kenya, Laikipia County, it was a turning point not only for her self-esteem but for her passion for community-based projects. She started by publishing a kid's poetry and coloring book "Let's go wild" as an advocacy tool for improved quality education (literacy) and conservation at the grassroots.
The nudge to do more for her community grew more after she was crowned Miss World Laikipia County. With support from friends, she started designing solutions on matters early marriages, reproductive health education, and life skills.
After returning from the Philippines as Kenya’s Miss World representative and being awarded as Kenyan Water Conservation Ambassador by the Deputy President and the then water Cabinet Secretary, Grace in collaboration with youths from her county started the ‘Drawing Dreams initiative’
The team has carried out various activities and programs in partnership with various organizations with a focus on Menstrual Health Management (community engagement, education & advocacy) Sexual and reproductive health, and 21st Century Lifeskills Empowerment.
Grace is currently a United Nations Youth Association~ Laikipia County Coordinator and has previously worked with the Laikipia county government, department of tourism, trade, and cooperatives.
Her desire is to impact the lives of many young people, to encourage them to pursue their dreams and leave footprints in the sands of time.
